  • The Function:  The Test Facilities team helps create and maintain state of the art Test facilities to allow Rolls-Royce to provide world class gas turbine and power system applications to the market. Many of our existing products are on airframes that can be seen in movies, video games, and on the news.
  • What you’ll do: The responsibilities of the selected candidate can include:
    • Designs and delivers electrical test equipment for; gas turbine whole engine/subsystem/component, hybrid electric propulsion, thermal management, directed energy, and energy storage system testing.
    • Works to design, detail, and troubleshoot programmable logic control systems (PLCs), electric drive and load absorption systems, various electrical/electronic control components, power supply and distribution systems.
    • Designs, details, and performs system integration of electrical control components related to pneumatic, fuel, refrigeration, hydraulic, instrumentation/data acquisition systems, and test facility health and safety systems.
    • Performs job oversight during the test facility conversions or test equipment installations.  Provides direction for internal personnel and/or contracted personnel.  Organizes safety meetings relating to installation efforts. Coordinates to ensure installations do not interfere with other testing that may be in progress or planned.
    • Documents work through drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams, reports, memos, best practice guides, and regular status updates/emails.
    • Creates specifications, cost and schedule estimates, obtains vendor/external contractor quotations, and initiates procurement/fabrication process.
    • Develops solutions to routine electrical technical problems of limited scope. 
    • Works without constant or direct oversight, but under the general guidance of the team manager or more senior engineer teammates.
    • Participates as a team member in operational improvement projects.
    • What you’ll need: Candidates will be able to/have:
    • * Ability to read/understand electrical drawings/schematics/process & instrumentation diagrams
    • * National Electric Code (NEC) familiarity
    • * Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Vizio, Project
    • * AutoCAD or Equilavent 2D CAD system
    • Relevant Majors:  Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering & Technology.
    • Standing/Graduation eligibility: Bachelors Required at a minimum.
    • Must either have graduated by December 2021 or will be graduating by August 2022.
    • Minimum GPA: 3.0
    • Preferred qualifications (not required):
    • Ability to create electrical drawings, schematics, process & instrumentation diagrams (PIDs) using AutoCAD or Equilavent 2D CAD system
    • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC): Programming, Troubleshooting, hardware specification/procurement (Rockwell / Allen Bradley product experience is preferred)
    • Siemens Teamcenter experience (Database/Document Storage system)
    • Familiar with Networking setup/troubleshooting (Ethernet, Device Net, Modbus)
    • Understanding of variable frequency drives (VFD) and 3-phase electric motors
    • Understanding of Electric Motor Control centers, substations, power distribution
    • Understanding of process instrumentation (i.e. flow meters, transducers, etc.)
